Introduction

YouTube offers a great way to keep track of the videos you’ve watched in the past, but sometimes you might want to clear your history for privacy reasons. Here’s how to do it.

Deleting Your Search History

Deleting your YouTube search history is a two-step process. First, you need to clear your search suggestions, which are the terms YouTube saves based on your previous searches. To do that, log in to YouTube and click on the three lines in the top left corner of the main screen. Next to “History: Off,” click on “History: On.” A drop-down menu will appear; click “Search history.” On the next page, click “Clear all search history.” A pop-up window will appear; click “Clear search history” again.

Once you’ve cleared your search suggestions, you can delete your actual search history. To do that, log in to YouTube and click on the three lines in the top left corner of the main screen. Next to “History: On,” click on “History: Off.” A drop-down menu will appear; click “Search history.” On the next page, beside each video thumbnail, you’ll see a checkmark. Click the checkmark to select the video (you can select more than one at a time by holding down Shift while you click), then click “Remove items.” A pop-up window will appear; click “Remove items” again.

Pause or Stop Your Search History

You can choose to automatically pause your search history. This means that your searches will be temporarily paused and won’t be saved to your account. You can also choose to stop your search history. This means that your searches will no longer be saved to your account.

To turn off history on all devices:
1.On YouTube, click on the three lines in the top left corner of the main screen.
2.From there, select “History:.
3.Next to “History Type”, select “Pause all history” or “Stop all history”.
4.Select Done.

Clearing Your Watch History

You can clear your entire watch history or delete individual items from your watch history. If you’re signed in, your watch history is saved to your account.

To clear your entire watch history:

1. Open YouTube and sign in.
2. Click on the three lines in the top left corner of the main screen.
3. Select “History: beneath “Library.”
4. On the right, click “Clear all viewing history.”
5. To finalize, click “OK.”

You can also choose to pause your watch history. This means that YouTube won’t save videos that you watch while paused. Pausing your watch history does not delete your watch history; it just temporarily stops adding new videos to it. You can find this option beneath “History” in the same menu as above

Clearing Other Activity From Your Account

YouTube knows quite a bit about you. It knows what videos you watch, how long you watch them for, and even where you watch them. All of this information is used to improve your YouTube experience by showing you more content that you’re likely to enjoy. But it can also be handy for advertisers who want to target you with ads based on your interests.

If you’d prefer that YouTube didn’t keep track of your viewing habits, it’s easy to clear your history. You can either do it from the YouTube app or website. Here’s how:

From the YouTube app:
1. Tap on the three lines in the top left corner of the screen.
2That will open up a menu. Scroll down and tap on “History: under “You.”
3. On the next screen, tap on “Clear all search history.”
4A pop-up will appear asking if you’re sure you want to clear your history. Tap on “OK” to confirm.

From the YouTube website:
1Sign in to your account and click on the three lines in the top left corner of the screen.
2That will open up a menu. Scroll down and click on “History: under “You.”
3On the next screen, click on “Clear all search history.”
4A pop-up will appear asking if you’re sure you want to clear your history. Click on “OK” to confirm

Conclusion

That’s all it takes to clear your history on YouTube. As you can see, it’s a pretty straightforward process. And if you ever need to check what watched videos are in your history, simply click on the “History” tab on the left side of the YouTube home page. From there, you can view your watch history and even delete specific entries or clear your entire history if you so choose.
